Travel FAQs: Everything You Wanted to Know (and Some Things You Never Thought to Ask!)

Welcome to the ultimate travel FAQ!
Whether you're planning your first adventure or you're a seasoned traveler, we’ve got answers to the most common — and the most curious — travel questions.

🧳 Practical Travel FAQs

➡️ How far in advance should I book my trip?

For the best pricing, availability, and perks, it’s recommended to book cruises and international travel 6–9 months in advance. Holiday and peak season trips should be booked even earlier when possible to ensure your top choice in accommodations and itineraries.

➡️ Do I need travel insurance, and what does it cover?

Yes! Travel insurance can protect your investment if you need to cancel unexpectedly, encounter a medical emergency, lose luggage, or experience trip interruptions. Different policies cover different scenarios, and I can help guide you to the right plan for your trip.

➡️ What documents do I need for international travel?

At minimum, you will need a valid passport, and most countries require it to be valid for at least 6 months beyond your return date. Some destinations also require visas, health certificates, or vaccination records. I’ll help ensure you know exactly what’s required for your itinerary. Click here for more information.

➡️ When is the best time to travel to Europe, Alaska, or the Caribbean?

  • Europe: May–June or September–October for pleasant weather and smaller crowds.

  • Alaska: May–September during the cruise season, when wildlife viewing is at its best.

  • Caribbean: December–April offers the driest weather, perfect for beach vacations and cruises.

➡️ Can you help plan accessible travel for guests with mobility needs?

Absolutely. I partner with trusted vendors who specialize in accessible accommodations, transportation, and excursions, ensuring that your trip is safe, comfortable, and memorable.

➡️ What is the difference between a travel advisor and booking online?

Working with a travel advisor means personalized service, expert recommendations, insider perks, and someone to advocate for you if issues arise. Online booking engines can’t offer the level of care, customization, or protection that I provide — often at no additional cost to you.

➡️ Can you help plan multi-generational or group travel?

Yes! From coordinating cabins and room blocks to arranging group excursions and special events, I can help make your family reunion, milestone celebration, or friends’ getaway seamless and stress-free.

Of course, not every travel question is serious — some are just plain fun! Here are a few of the more surprising questions travelers have asked...

🎒 Fun & Off-the-Wall Travel FAQs

➡️ Can I fish off a cruise ship?

While it sounds fun, no — fishing directly from a cruise ship isn’t allowed. However, many cruises offer fishing excursions at ports of call if you'd like to try your luck!

➡️ Is the Grand Canyon man-made?

Nope! The Grand Canyon is entirely natural, carved by the Colorado River over millions of years. It’s one of the most stunning examples of natural geological processes on Earth.

➡️ Can I bring a coconut in my carry-on?

Yes, you can — but it must pass through security screening. TSA generally allows coconuts in carry-ons or checked luggage, though coconuts with liquid inside could be subject to additional inspection. Click here for more information.

➡️ Do deer know where to cross the road?

Deer crossing signs alert drivers to areas where deer are already known to cross frequently. Sadly, deer don’t understand the signs — the signs are for us to slow down and watch for them!

➡️ Can I rent a llama for a hike?

Yes! In places like Montana & Wyoming, llama trekking tours are available where llamas carry your gear while you hike. It's a fun and unique outdoor adventure!

➡️ If I lose my passport abroad, can I just use my driver’s license?

No — you’ll need a passport to travel internationally. If your passport is lost or stolen while abroad, contact the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate immediately. They can issue an emergency replacement passport to help you get home.

➡️ Can I grow a totem pole if I plant a seed?

Totem poles are handcrafted works of art, traditionally made by Indigenous peoples of the Pacific Northwest — no seeds involved!

➡️ Can I bring a snow globe in my carry-on bag?

Only if it's less than 3.4 ounces of liquid and fits in your quart-size bag!

➡️ Can I take home sand from the beach?

Often no - many beaches (like Hawaii or Italy) prohibit it and enforce fines!

➡️ If I fall asleep on a cruise ship, will I miss a port?

Technically ues! It's rare, but staff often make multiple announcements before arrival.
